JamRoq, Strictly Locs Business Owner and Loctician

I’ve interviewed the acclaimed Strictly Locs Loctician, JamRoq about her views on Natural Hair which I found this interesting and thought I’d share.

Q: What are your views on Natural Hair?

JamRoq: I have clients who ask me about color treatment their Natural Locs and I explain the following:

1. Level 1 –  Natural Hair that is in it’s purest form. Hair is not manipulated on a daily basis, combed, washed with sulfate shampoos or chemically treated whatsoever. Hair is worn as-is.

2.  Level 2 – Natural Hair that is manipulated, combed, styled, cut”. Hair may be styled in protective styles such as: braids, locs, twists, and weaves, however, hair is not chemically treated in any way. For color, Henna has been suggested as a suitable natural hair dyeing alternative. For more information, click here.

Aside: I have asked a Hair Stylist about this coloring process but she says can cause hair to become quite dry and brittle leading to potential damage if not cared for properly.

3. Level 3 – Although seemingly natural in texture, the hair/locs have been chemically color treated. This hair is not considered to be in a natural state. JamRoq keeps it real and has said to consider her mane to fall into this category and explains to her clients that her hair is not natural because she made a personal choice to chemically color treat her locs.
