Video | A Heated “No” to the Blow-dry!

Have you seen this season’s blow-dry fiasco on WE TV’s LA Hair?

Watch LA Hair Preview Clip

Well, for me it was one of the most engaging highlights of the this season’s LA Hair thus far. The preview reveals a back and forth clash between Kim Kimble and Designer, Korto Momolu’s hired model, who insists on maintaining her natural tight curls as opposed to the shape and textured look envisioned by Ms. Kimble herself.

It’s a rather intense exchange between the unnamed model and whom Kimble refers to as a “Diva Model” onset of Momolu’s Wedding Photo Shoot.

“I don’t usually blow dry my hair, that’s my thing” ~ Diva Model

I’m not a model so I won’t be covering on-the-job model etiquette. However, as a Natural Beauty Blogger & Lifestyle Coach, I empathize with the model whose primary concern may have been as is for many naturals the desire to ultimately maintain their curl pattern. I’m known as a heat minimalist or heat-vegan when it comes to my natural hair.  I’ve not only had the displeasure of having to discover a section of my daughter’s long hair being scorched off with a thermal tool used by a stylist at a Dudley Professional Salon, but in recent years having to explain to women why their hair will not perform as they hope due to irreversible heat damage. Read what Fran, author of HeyFranHey.com and writer for BlackGirlLongHair.com says about heat usage.

Signs that you’ve experienced heat damage:

  • You see two seemingly different textures in their hair
  • The curls your familiar with are now limp and wimpy

This is often caused by the following:

  • straightening treatment
  • thermal tools used at very high temperatures
